Hi from sunny Florida! πŸ‘‹ β˜€οΈ
I spent this month in a place that I fell in love with – Naples, Florida. Naples is the city where old folks drive Rolls Royce and Audi R8 by the Mexican Gulf. It’s where rich Americans retire. Sun all year round, happy and well-educated people, big market full of opportunities. What else do you need?
I gave myself a promise that I will return here soon. Hopefully this year.
People ask me – why not Miami? Well, because Miami is not American. It’s almost like Moscow – everyone speaks Russian here :-)

During the trip, I finished reading all remaining books by Nassim Nicolas Taleb – The Black Swan, Fooled by Randomness and Skin in the Game. Each book is great and unique, so I recommend them if you already like NNT. If you are new to his work, start with Antifragile. This book has influenced my life significantly:
Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder
The Principal Developer is a new post on my blog. It’s a short conversation between me and my ex-colleague Andrey about skills that experienced developers need. You can read it here: https://sizovs.net/2019/02/15/the-principal-developer/
πŸŽ“ Immediately after the post I released my new invitation-only masterclass with the same name. The Principal Developer will build traits, habits, and skills that technical people need to succeed at senior-level positions. The course was in production for more than two years. Check it out here: https://devchampions.com/training/the-principal-developer/
FYI: Starting from today, domains with .dev extensions have become available to the public. By now, there are many cool domain names available. I registered principal.dev for 400€.
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» To keep my Java coding skills sharp, I released an open-source library PipelinR – it’s a lightweight command processing pipeline ❍ β‡’ ❍ β‡’ ❍ for your Java awesome app. Any Java developers in my list? :-)
πŸ’‘ Free career advice for you – if you know how to code, and your current role does not allow you to code at work (say, you are engineering manager), never stop coding. Life is unpredictable. Coding is a skill that will always be with you.
Few Tweets before I let yo go:

Pair programming has many benefits, but it is not for everyone. Remember that there are extreme introverts that don't feel comfortable working in pairs. We need to create comfortable environment where everyone can perform at their best.

– "We need to hire more developers for this project. At least ten!"
– "Better hire one who will eliminate this need."
